Martin Luther Pilgrimage TourDay 1 USA - Germany 
Board your international flight to Germany. Shortly after take off a full course dinner will be served. Enjoy the inflight entertainment program and a breakfast before arrival.

Day 2  Frankfurt - Eisenach area
After arrival in Frankfurt you will be met by your tour director. He will arrange the luggage transfer and will guide you to your waiting deluxe motor coach. Driver and tour director will remain with you for the entire tour. Soon you will be on your way via the famous Autobahn to the area of Eisenach. Check into your hotel, relax and enjoy your welcome dinner. (D)

Day 3  Eisenach - Erfurt
Drive into Eisenach, the birthplace of J.S.Bach. Visit the houses Luther and Bach lived in and, of course, Wartburg castle. For over 900 years, the Wartburg has played host to many important persons and events in German history.  Luther fled here following his examination before Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in April 1521. Luther lived here  for 10 months and translated the New Testament into the German language. Departure to Erfurt where Luther studied from 1501 to 1505 at the local university.  After a life threatening situation of nearly being killed by lightning, Luther turned from his law studies  to the teachings of Christ and entered the Augustinian monastery to become a monk on July 17,1505. Morning city sightseeing in Erfurt, city of flowers and churches. Above the town you will see the Cathedral and the church of St.Severus. Walk over the medieval Kramer bridge built in 1325. Pass the renaissance town hall and numerous houses of wealthy merchants. Your tour will end with a visit of the Augustinian monastery. The afternoon is free to explore Erfurt on your own.  (B)

Day 5 Erfurt - Leipzig
First stop this morning is Mansfeld where Luther grew up and started latin school at the age of seven. The family stone house still stands on Luther street. A short distance from Mansfeld is Eisleben where we visit the birth and death place of Luther. Through Halle, the birthplace of the composer Handel, to Leipzig.(B,D)

Day 6  Leipzig
Morning city sightseeing tour of Leipzig. Luther and Eck discussed Papal doctrine here in 1519. Luther’s sermon on May 25,1539 at the St.Thomas Church started the Reformation in Leipzig.  St.Thomas Church is also known as the place where J.S.Bach worked a good portion of his life.
The afternoon is free for individual activities. (B)

Day 7  Leipzig  (Wittenberg excursion)
Depart to Wittenberg. Visit the Schlosskirche (castle church) on which door Luther nailed his 95 theses on October 31,1517. Your walking tour through Wittenberg takes you also to St.Mary’s Church where Luther preached.  This church has a beautiful altar with paintings from Cranach who maintained a painting school in Wittenberg. Return via Torgau on the Elbe River where  Russian & American troops met at the end of WWII. Torgau also made history 400 years earlier when Luther consecrated the first church built for evangelical worship. Return to Leipzig. (B)

Religious Pilgrimage - martin lutherDay 8  Leipzig - Augsburg
Driving south on the Autobahn to Bayreuth, sight of the annual Richard Wagner Festival. Passing Nuremberg you will follow the “Romantic Road” with all it’s medieval villages to  Augsburg. Check into your hotel and enjoy dinner.(B,D)

Day 9  Augsburg - Austrian Alps
Morning city sightseeing tour of Augsburg, one of Germany’s oldest towns, founded 15 BC. It became a trading center on the highway to Italy in the 15th century. Augsburg is important to Lutherans due to the Imperial Diet in 1530 through Charles V. However, it was first 1555 when protestants won their freedom of worship under the Peace of Augsburg. After some time on your own, board your motor coach to depart south into the Alps. Your overnight accommodations will be in a small mountain village just over the border in Austria.                                                                             (B,D)

Day 10  Austrian Alps - Munich
Through a picturebook scenery of high mountains, lakes and small villages we will move on to the alpine resort of Fuessen, site of King Ludwigs castle Neuschwanstein.  Walt Disney used this “original” to model his Cinderella castle. After a visit of this “dreamlike”  castle continue  to Oberammergau, famous for its  Passion Play and the local woodcarving industry. After some time on your own to explore this picturesque village continue your tour to Munich. (B,D)

Day 11 Munich
Morning city sightseeing tour including Nymphenburg Palace (the former summer residence of the Royal Bavarian family), the Church of our Lady, the BMW plant, the Hofbrauhaus and the sites of the 1972 summer olympics.  Afternoon free time. Tonight enjoy your farewell dinner with Bavarian Folklore Show.   (B,D)

Day 12  Munich - USA
Today it is time to say “Auf Wiedersehen” when you board your motor coach to the airport for your return flight to the U.S.            (B)
